Life is a Dance Floor
Life is a dance floor...
We find ourselves with different partners
At different times
And we dance to different music
In different tempos
With different intensities.
Some partners are old
Some are young
Some, our age
Some are strangers who become friends or lovers
Some - we have known all our lives and don't know what to make of
But we dance with them, anyway
Because the music continues
Some dances are fleeting
Some seem to go on and we can't wait until they're over
Some - we pray would not end - but they do
But when all the stars are aligned,
Some dances last a lifetime
And so we dance
With strangers
With drifters
With adversaries
With mentors
With students
With peers
With friends
With lovers
And we give thanks
For those who have influenced us to be better -
Those who we learned to love
And who told us stories we have heard before, and still we listen;
who said jokes we already know in our hearts, and still we laugh;
those whose lives have inspired us, not because of their successes,
but because of their struggles, failures and endless faith that keeps them trying.
And we owe gratitude
To those who we found hard to love
Who kept us on our toes
Who taught us what not to be;
and showed us what not to do
We keep in our hearts
Those who awakened our faculties to think for ourselves, and showed us how;
those who encouraged us to question things we did not understand and find answers if there was none
those who patiently led us to the difference between loyalty and blind faith;
between truth and lies - especially those of our own doings;
between vision and obsession;
between love and lust;
between reality and fantasy;
between life and death.
And we continue to dance
With partners who come and go
For as long as the music plays
In our lives
In our thoughts
In our hearts
Life is a dance floor
And so we dance.
And so we dance
Until the music of our life is no more...
